Chapter and Verse one line at a Time

Posted by TheMidnightWriter at Monday, January 17, 2011 0 comments
You have probably been waiting for my novel update so here goes. I have learned since I took upon this venture that birthing an idea to write a book seems a lot simpler until you actually begin the task. It occurred to me that all the idealistic thoughts and romantic fantasies I had about successful authors began some place in a chair just like the one I often find myself sitting, alone for hours brainstorming and writing, and rewriting. The lines begin to form in a fluid pattern that supports the original story concept. Then the paragraphs come together in magical synchronicity. After some work the first chapter actually seems to be finished. In the world of novel writing, get used to the idea of "seems to be finished". You have to be flexible because by the time the story chronology and plot seem to resonate into one fluid story, a change might need to be made to that finished chapter that you tucked away a month or two ago. Just keep flowing and don't be discouraged.

NEVER THROW ANY THING AWAY UNTIL YOUR STORY IS FINISHED!

This is the greatest piece of wisdom that I can pass on from my own personal experience. And remember to back up all your work on the computer whether in draft form or final copy. Save copies of any printed notes and manuscripts as well. It's a good idea to give a sealed copy to a trusted friend or relative who can put it in a safe place for you, just in case the unexpected happens.

My first few months working on my novel have been adventurous, perplexing, creative, hard work, and very rewarding. Ultimately though, my novel is coming together one chapter and one line at a time. I have a ways to go till I can realize seeing a final draft in print so come back often for updates. Will you be my cheering rally?

Novel writing takes freelancing to new levels

Posted by TheMidnightWriter at Sunday, December 05, 2010 0 comments
Recently, I took the steps towards actualizing a life long dream. I started writing the draft to a novel that I intend to have produced into a feature length movie. The transition from book to film opened my mind to all the possibilities in the freelance writing field. It is at that moment that I realized I can do both, novel and script/screenplay writing. I started the quest to understand the total involvement of both fields. I will be sharing this venture on Freelance Review.

Writing a book is an involved task with many aspects that take it from concept to actualization. So just where does a writer start the process once the decision is made to commit to a full length book?

Start by making a list of ideas. Break it all down into categories, topics, titles, phrases and chronology. You will refine this list many times before the novel's completion. Write down all the ideas you have for your book and keep refining the list to expound upon those ideas. Soon you will find yourself writing lines, then pages and before you know it your manuscript will be completed. The final decision you will make is how to publish, which we'll cover in another article.

I've actually simplified this process but I plan to expound more on this topic in future posts. I want to include links to resources and some valuable information as I discover it in my quest. Meanwhile, start brainstorming that novel. We can do this together!

Legendary Wild Mustangs are Killed for Hides

Posted by TheMidnightWriter at Saturday, April 10, 2010 0 comments

Visit the Facebook group who is rounding up wild mustang advocates to lobby for their protection to save their lives and their freedom. Wild mustangs are being hunted for their hides to make leather art. This tragedy is promoted and funded by two Russian tycoons who are sponsoring these mustang safaris by paying big bucks for people to bring in the horse hides. Helicopters have been used to round them up and to kill them. According to the news reports circulating, this scandal is related to the Guggenheim Foundation. Read all about it on the Facebook group. Contact their organizers to find out what you can to do to help lobby for legislation to stop this tragedy. Please work hard to help save these wonderful creatures before it's too late.

People are becoming increasingly more aware about health insurance in these times of multiple natural disasters. Public option medical coverage is falling short of people's needs so more people are turning to private insurance to supplement their other coverage. In that light, I investigated some different companies and would like to present an insurance provider that offers mutuelle hospitalisation at an inexpensive rate. Freelance Writing is a Literary Artform

Posted by TheMidnightWriter at Monday, February 22, 2010 0 comments
When the word "freelance writing" resounds in the ethers of writing infamy, what do you think about?

Perhaps writing short stories for anthologies or magazines comes to mind. Maybe you think about writing blog or web content. Or your thoughts might wander in the direction of flash or short story fiction. Whatever the venue, consider the substance of freelance writing. It is an art form that encompasses many writing styles, genres and outlets for expression.

I'm not referring to any style of writing when I compare freelance to literary art. It is important to differentiate between simple writing styles, creative writing and literature worthy prose. All styles of writing can be classed as literary art. Some forms are just far more elegant than others. Let's explore the different styles and set out on a quest to find good examples of each one.

I've developed three titles for my simple classifications and for the purpose of research, I'll start breaking down the categories with these three classes. As research reveals the finer details of each category, I'll list the actual terms and provide a description and example of the writing styles.

Simple Writing Styles

This basic form of writing refers to the construction of simple sentences written in the most effective and efficient patterns. An idea is conveyed by using the simplest words to achieve it. Simple writing takes a thought and finds a way to express it.

Creative Writing

Creative writing is a more imaginative style of writing that is used in stories, poetry, prose and fiction novels. It involves the use of imagination, style and voice. The language is vivid, descriptive yet fluent and transitory. Emphasis and dialogue often adds depth to the written piece in the case of short or long story fiction.

Literary Prose

Creative writing is literary prose in its purest form. Other forms of prose are found in most types of writing such as poetry, prose, novels, essays, fiction, and critical reviews.
I've described the most basic definition of writing styles. Each category listed above has many aspects that embrace the depth and width of literature. The next session will delve deeper into a critical analysis of writing styles with historic samples.

It's Important to Set an Intention for your Blog

Posted by TheMidnightWriter at Saturday, February 20, 2010 0 comments
This blog is in its birth stage so I'll work on taking the good advice in the topic of this discussion.

Set the Intention for your Blog.

It is the most crucial beginning step you can take. Have you ever gone off on a long winded tirade discussing a topic then wonder how you got to the place you ended up in the middle of the article? Then you wondered how to get back to the point? Well, a blog is just like an article. It's a compilation of many articles that continues telling an extended story. If you think of it that way, you'll understand why its important to set the intention that will define the path for your blog. Build the roadmap and think of it as creating the story plot.
